It was shocking to hear Professor John Hearle passed away. It is indeed a great loss to the Textile World.
Professor John Hearle, was one of the most understanding figures in textile science and technology in the modern time. Graduating with a First Class Honours degree from the Cambridge University and PhD degree from the University of Manchester, he embarked onto a very colourful and successful career which has been inspiring for many newcomers to the industry.
He started his academic career in 1949 by serving on the faculty of the University of Manchester, Department of Textiles. He then became a Professor in Textile Technology and Chairman of the Department between 1974 and 1985. During that period he also served as the Dean of Faculty of Technology from 1979 and 1980.
He has published about 250 influential academic papers and authored and co-authored 14 books, and many of these have been used as „bibles‟ of textile science and technology worldwide.
